DONT LOOK BACK Controls

Find prompts bottom-right in-game, then build muscle memory for day loot and night survival.

Where controls actually live

In DONT LOOK BACK, Manul Studio surfaces control information in the bottom-right of the screen during play. That on-screen cluster is the source of truth for the current pre-alpha build — not a stale screenshot from a random TikTok. Before every session, glance at that corner after spawn. If an update remaps interact, sprint, or weapon slots, the UI will tell you faster than any wiki paragraph.

This page explains how to use that habit, how controls interact with the day–night loop, and which Game Pass quality-of-life buys change your input load. Pair it with Getting Started and Survive the Night.

Platform and avatar notes

  • Platform: Roblox (PC, and whatever devices Roblox currently allows for this place).
  • Avatar: R15.
  • Genre framing: Survival / Escape with horror presentation — loud audio, flashes, jumpscares.
  • Lobby size: up to 22 players, so input lag from panic spam is real in crowded nights.

Because the experience is [UPDATE] DON’T LOOK BACK [PRE-ALPHA], expect prompt text and key highlights to evolve. Re-check bottom-right after patches instead of memorizing a forever keybind table from July 2026 forever.

Daytime input priorities

Daytime is loot, objectives, sell, buy. Your fingers should prioritize:

  1. Movement into cover while scanning for scraps — see Find Scraps.
  2. Interact on scrap nodes and objective props without standing in doorways.
  3. Inventory / hotbar management so selling is one clean trip, not five half trips.
  4. Shop confirmation discipline — do not fat-finger a cash pack or Reset Objectives (39 Robux developer product) when you meant to buy ammo.

If you own +2 Hotbar Slots (129 Robux Game Pass), practice a layout: light tool, primary weapon, secondary, utility. Extra slots only help if you stop swapping blindly when a threat audio cue hits.

Nighttime input priorities

Night is avoid-or-fight until dawn. Controls become survival-critical:

  • Sprint staminaStamina Boost +25 (79) extends mistakes; it does not replace route knowledge.
  • Flashlight toggle / aimStronger Flashlight (49, 1.5x brighter and farther) changes how far you commit to a corridor. Do not point-beam teammates’ faces during stealth moments if your group is trying to stay quiet.
  • Weapon fire discipline — Permanent Peacemaker (249), M16A4 (399), or Barrett M82 (599) still need trigger control. Mag dumping in The Backrooms can reveal your position more than it saves you.
  • Look management — the title fantasy is in the name. Panic camera spins lose scraps and friends. Train yourself to check flanks with short glances, then re-center on your escape lane.

Accessibility and comfort settings

Content warnings are not flavor text. Loud sounds, flashing lights, and jumpscares are part of the pitch. Before a long session:

  • Lower master volume until cues remain readable without ear fatigue.
  • If photosensitive, play with a trusted friend watching chat, or take breaks between nights.
  • On shared PCs, confirm Roblox focus so chat or browser overlays do not eat a critical interact press.

There is no verified official Discord or Trello to pin “current binds” externally. Community spreadsheets may lag behind the bottom-right UI — trust the live client first.

Co-op control etiquette

In Solo vs Co-op groups, assign simple voice or chat roles: who watches rear, who interacts with sell NPCs or stations, who holds flashlight for the looter. Twenty-two players means accidental friendly fire and interact contests. Call “selling” before you occupy a vendor interaction so teammates do not shove you out of the prompt.

If someone dies with valuable scraps, Scrap Insurance (179) and Recover Lost Items (59 developer product) are economy tools — they do not replace learning not to AFK in open road on Redwood Road.

Common control failures (and fixes)

FailureLikely causeFix
Missed scrap pickupLooking at chat / map artRe-center, watch bottom-right prompts
Died mid-sprintStamina emptyBuy stamina pass or shorter dashes between cover
Shot nothing usefulPanic hipfirePre-aim lanes; save Barrett for distance
Bought wrong productShop spamPause; confirm cash pack vs gear
Lost night orientationNo flashlight habitStronger Flashlight + map landmarks

Practice drill (ten minutes)

  1. Spawn, read bottom-right prompts aloud once.
  2. Complete one scrap path without opening unrelated menus — Find Scraps.
  3. Finish or progress one objective — Objectives.
  4. Sell, buy only flashlight or stamina if needed.
  5. Survive the next night using movement first, shooting second.

Repeat on each map so indoor Backrooms binds feel as natural as forest Pine Woods binds.

What we will not invent

No custom “pro keybind codes,” no loadstring “auto interact” scripts, and no fake YouTube “best settings” video IDs. None were verified for this place. If Manul Studio publishes an official control chart later, it will supersede third-party lists — and the in-game bottom-right panel still wins ties.

When controls feel comfortable, return to Getting Started for economy order, then specialize nights and maps from the Guides Hub.
