Pine Woods

Forest map, different panic

Pine Woods is the woodland face of DONT LOOK BACK — less clone-corridor than The Backrooms, less asphalt exposure than Redwood Road. Trees break line of sight both for you and for whatever hunts after dusk. That soft cover is a gift and a trap: you can break chase, or lose your entire squad ten meters apart.

Day still means loot scraps, complete objectives, sell, buy gear. Night still means randomized threats, avoid or fight, live until dawn. Keep Find Scraps, Objectives, and Survive the Night close.

Daytime forest routing

  1. Think triangles, not straight lines. Cabin ↔ clearing ↔ ridge loops prevent the classic “I walked past the same stump four times” tax.
  2. Loot in shadow edges. Canopy hides props; slow your camera along tree lines instead of only checking bright clearings.
  3. Budget stamina for objective distances. Outdoor tasks stretch farther than Backrooms halls. Stamina Boost +25 (79 Robux) is often the first woods-specific upgrade after a basic light.
  4. Sell before the woods go blue. Dusk among trees is easy to misread; bank early when the lobby is dense (cap 22).

Stronger Flashlight (49) still matters under canopy at twilight. Scrap Insurance (179) helps learners who die mid-forest with full bags. Bonus Cash 1.5x (249) rewards clean triangles.

Audio-first nights

Pine Woods nights are an ear exam. Leaves, wind-like ambience, and designed loud sounds compete. Practical rules:

  • Stop moving when you hear something new — footsteps versus ambience.
  • Do not hold on ridge skylines; silhouettes sell you out.
  • Use trunks as hard cover; peek with short leans, not full-body stares.
  • Flashlights in woods are visible far — pulse, do not parade.

Fight when you have a tree-lane crossfire with teammates (Solo vs Co-op). Avoid when you only have a one-way sprint into darkness. Peacemaker (249) and M16A4 (399) work between trunks; Barrett M82 (599) owns rare long firebreaks but is awkward in dense stands.

Objectives in the trees

Outdoor objectives punish poor rendezvous points. Set midpoints: “meet at fallen log near north cabin” beats “somewhere in pines.” If the board soft-locks after a chaotic night, Reset Objectives (39) is available — not a substitute for learning distances. Embed scraps along the run so every objective walk pays twice.

Solo woods vs group woods

Solo: Over-prepare gear, shorten ambitions, and accept avoidance-heavy nights. Getting Started habits still apply — Getting Started.

Group: Assign sectors of the tree line. One player watching “west trunks” while another loots beats everyone staring at the same prop. Keep chat short; long essays get people killed mid-sentence.

Content warnings hit differently outdoors

Flashing lights and jumpscares in dark forest contrast can feel harsher than indoor fluorescents. Lower volume until cues remain informative. Controls remain listed bottom-right in-game — Controls.

Failures unique to Pine Woods

  • Sprinting stamina dry between two clearings with no trunk plan.
  • Entire squad stacking one flashlight cone under a single tree.
  • Chasing revenge into unscouted brush after a scare.
  • Assuming last night’s safe bush is still safe — threats randomize.
  • Downloading a “woods ESP script” — no verified scripts; we will not invent any.

Suggested buy order for this map

  1. Flashlight strength.
  2. Stamina.
  3. Reliable mid-range weapon (earned cash or Peacemaker/M16A4 passes).
  4. Hotbar slots if you juggle tools.
  5. Barrett only if you fight on firebreaks often.
  6. Cash packs ($250–$3000) only to skip grind on purpose.

Recover Lost Items (59) after a deep-woods death can restore momentum; still, learn the triangle that killed you.

Compare and graduate

If Backrooms overwhelmed you with sameness, Pine Woods teaches spacing. If Redwood Road feels too exposed, woods teach soft cover. Rotate maps to keep pre-alpha practice fresh — the place has been live since 2026-07-12 and was still updating in August 2026, so props and tuning may shift.

No Discord/Trello loot maps were verified; trust live play. When your forest dawns feel consistent, revisit the Guides Hub and pressure-test another biome.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for DONT LOOK BACK players.

What makes Pine Woods unique?

Tree cover breaks sightlines both ways. Audio reads and stamina routing matter more than indoor landmarking.

Which upgrade should I buy first for woods?

After a usable flashlight, Stamina Boost helps long outdoor objective paths.

Is the Barrett good in Pine Woods?

Situational. Dense trees favor mid-range guns; Barrett shines on rare long firebreaks.

Can I find an official woods Trello?

No verified Trello or Discord was found for DONT LOOK BACK. Use in-game exploration.

Should groups spread out?

Yes — sector the tree line — but keep callout range so nobody vanishes ten meters away.
